Shula's record as a coach is not exactly clean, just protected by the power he had in the NFL when he coached. Shall we all go back to before the 1982 AFC championship game when coach Shula failed to protect his field from torrential rains in Miami that made the unprotected field a muddy mess? NFL rules called for the home team to protect the field but Shula ignored it. It was not done. The Jets better offense was stymied and the Jets lost.
