Ann Coulter Endorses Mitt Romney

Posted by Jeremie Jordan on January 18, 2008

Not that I needed yet another reason not to support Mitt, but Ann Coulter seals it.

And, of course, Romney is a Mormon. Even a loser Mormon like Sen. Harry Reid claims to be pro-life. So having a candidate with a wacky religion isn’t all bad.

She probably also another reason to change my voter registration from Republican to independent.

Good point. There certainly aren’t any strident voices among independents. Admit it. Political discourse brings out the beast in people of all persuasions. Have you read Dean Barnett’s op-ed piece in the NYT? He has a handle on the Romney enigma. If Rudy doesn’t hit his stride, you may want to take a second look at Gov. Romney. This is worth reading. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/15/opinion/15barnett.html?th&emc=th

“I spent a lot of time with Mr. Romney that year [1994], and I occasionally served as his volunteer driver, taking him to local campaign events. The Mitt Romney I got to know was warm and likable. He had an electric intelligence. He was unfailingly decent. He was totally committed to his family. He treated everyone with respect and kindness.

“If you’re like most politically attuned Americans, you probably don’t agree with my description of Mr. Romney. You may consider him to be the personification of political ambition. You possibly believe he will say anything to get elected president. You might even consider him one of the least honorable politicians in the country. I often marvel at how the public perception of Mr. Romney differs so radically from the man I know.”

If Romney ran on his life story, he’d be fine. He hasn’t. His whole campaign is based upon lies. Either he lied as governor, or he lies as a campaigner. He had to know that a Republican in Mass is different from a Republican in a national race. He made his bed and should accept it.

Here’s something hot off the Vanderbilt University press today:

Vanderbilt political scientist John Geer and colleagues Brett Benson of Vanderbilt and Jennifer Merolla of Claremont Graduate University designed an Internet survey to assess bias against Mormons and its potential impact on the nomination process and general election campaign.

“We find that of those who accuse Romney of flip-flopping, many admit it is Romney’s Mormonism and not his flip-flopping that is the real issue,” Benson said. The survey shows that many who accuse Romney of flip-flopping also indicate that Mormonism, not flip-flopping, is their problem with Romney.

The study’s findings suggest that criticizing Romney for flip-flopping is an effective campaign strategy because it sticks with two different groups: those who are concerned about shifts on certain issues and those who use the label as cover for the fact that they do not want to vote for a Mormon for president.

I agree with EW, it’s almost too late to see the “real” Mitt now.

I did find this prank by his son pretty funny:
