The news up here in N.E. Iowa, and actually around all of Iowa the last several days has been the I.C.E. raid at the Agriprocessors plant in Postville, Ia. State 29 has been keeping an eye on the whole thing. He’s got excerpts from the Cedar Rapids Gazette from the warrent, and from what I’ve read, it looks like that company took FULL advantage of the illegal workers.
See, it’s not simply that they are doing jobs that Americans won’t do. It’s that they are being treated in a way that you couldn’t treat a legal citizen, because, you know, it’s criminal. They can pay you a low wage under the table, jack up your rent anytime they want, and force you to buy used cars from them. They won’t turn anybody in because the fear losing their job or getting turned into the authorities.
I’m kinda mad at the Catholic Church, my church. They were pretty quick to come out and denounce this raid, but, pardon my language, where the fuck were they when those illegal workers were being mistreated by the company? Why were you not out there protecting their rights then?
You were silent, and now that there is nothing you can do to stop the deportations, you speak up? Cowards.
I don’t know what the solution is.. I know you can up and deport 10+ million people.. I also know you can’t keep ignoring the problem. Poll after poll says Americans want a crackdown on illegal immigration. They got the biggest single state raid in American history.

I don’t have a problem with the raid. I believe we need to focus on keeping the families together, but these people were in fact breaking the law. To top it off, they were stealing identities. And I am supposed to feel sorry for them?
Also, let nail the company to the wall. Make them an example.

I guess part of fixing the problem will include the cost of food going up. Why does it have to be so expensive to do the right thing. I wonder if these are new problems facing our society or if we can study past civilizations to see how they dealt with these issues and find a good solution.

I don’t feel sorry for them in the least. YOU BROKE THE LAW! Now I see that there is a class action lawsuit against I.C.E. Just doesn’t make any sense.
btw…I really like the new website layout.
