[...] CBB Music: Chinese Democracy Album Review So far there have been two kinds of reviews for Guns N’ Roses new album Chinese Democracy: sarcastic and positive. Believe me, I breathe sarcasm but it has no place in a music review if it is not backed up by facts or additional insight. Of course there is a wealth of humor in the fact that Axl Rose’s new opus has been fourteen years in the making, but spare me the lame, sad music reviewer jokes. We’ve heard the one-liners before and most likely with a better delivery than coming from a sna [...]

Best Presidents:
1. Andrew Jackson- Yes, the trail of tears was terrible, but was also a failed attempt at something necessary. Andrew Jackson had a deep love for the Native American population. He saw the iminent crumbling of their culture and had to move them away. The assimilation to white culture was ruining them. It was necessary to move them. When Americans followed, is when the Indians were truly ruined. As for the Spoils System, a President is elected because (or should be) of his or her beliefs. So Jackson gave political positions to those who supported them which was good for the country. He was also a powerful patriot that would die for the country. He single handedly fought off an assassination attempt (with his cane :)). He was a man of the common people. Also, Jackson eradicated the corrupt banking system and paid off the national debt. He was the only president to do so. In your face Hoover and Bush!

2. Franklin Delano Roosevelt- Obvious one here. FDR was not a "good president who did bad things". He really didn't do anything that bad. The two term thing? It wasn't established until after his fourth term. He was elected by landslides just about everytime. He is what the American people wanted. Why hinder that? He was necessary to undo Hoover's mistakes just as Obama is necessary to undo Bush's mistakes. I don't see why everyone makes such a big deal about the socialist spice to FDR's administration. At least he cared about the middle class unlike the washington fat cats.
3. Bill Clinton- Bill didn't do anything "that great" but he didn't screw over our country as his two predecessors did (Bush and Reagan). He kept a steady government and did a commendable job. I'm sick of people who criticize him as a president for Monicagate. Big deal. The only thing that was wrong, politically, with that was the perjury that followed. Plus, he was one cool cat. Haha.

4. John F. Kennedy- Say what you will about Marilyn Monroe and what not, but key American cities would be craters today if not for Kennedy. Kennedy swiftly, narrowly, and gracefully avoided a tragedy by dissuading Kruschev (Sorry for the spelling) from letting the Cuban Missile Crisis happen. His work for Civil Rights was amazing too. He was cut down too soon.

WORST PRESIDENTS-

1. George W. Bush- The millenium equivalent to Hoover. Except Hoover wasn't bad enough to make the list. FOUR THOUSAND American troops have been used as tools of the government. I feel bad for our Army. Their devotion is incredible and I could never thank them enough. BUT, GWB has taken advantage of them to the worst degree. There is no reason for this war. Iraq has no WMDs. The key terrorists have fled. They are self sustaining, according to the Prime Minister. Why hang around? 100,000 Iraqi innocents have been killed. This is Georgie's fault. Less than fifty days until we're introduced to liberty again. Obama.

2. Ronald Reagan- Reaganomics, plain and simple.

3. JQ Adams- A useless president indeed. Not much to say about him. He just didn't do anything positive except help to create a political party that would produce some of the worst presidents of the nineteenth centruy.

4. Harding- I looked up scandal in the dictionary and right under OJ Simpson's face, sat Harding's chubby little grimace!

If you all haven't noticed, I'm a democrat.

Its a Modern Generation of New Sounds and New Styles a lot of New Modern Drummers. Went to the comparison mode and tried to compare Buddy Rich to Travis Joey Neil Lars and Mike and Ringo and Keith Moon and Dave Weckl and Simon and all the new people out there playing drums???? There is no one who can come close to Buddy Rich. Some thing you see missing in todays modern drumming whether it be metal hip hop fusion or Jazz is this? There is no drum ideas out there? Its the same type drum solo played over and over again. I see spot lights on the stage revolving drum sets two bass drums many many cymbals but the drum solos fall apart after the first minute. They fall short of a drum solo just a barage of noise with added spot lights and special movie tricks like smoke and revolving lights. Thats not drumming thats just a cover up. Buddy Rich played phenominal drum solos that had substance taste and each drum solo was a work of art and precision. What your hearing and seeing today is noise over layer of noise. Also watch the guys playing today they use their ARMS and have their stick heights over fourteen inches to make a bounce. they use their ARMS instead of their wrists. Dead give away to show you they POUND a set of drums. A big Joke. Its all in the WRISTS. Buddy Rich played with total control using his WRISTS not his arms. Dont give the different GENRE thing a thought. You heard Buddy Rich behind a set of drums you heard the GREATEST sounding Snare drum and his Toms were tuned like an orchestra. You listen and watch today it sounds all the same. Cardboard Box Drum Sounds cymbals sound like Breaking Plates and Bass Drums sound like Storage Boxes dropping off the loading dock. You can not compare Buddy Rich to any drummer out there. There is no comparison. Buddy Rich was the total Musician. the Musical Drummer.

I thought it was pretty fair list over-all, especially your treatment of Nixion.
The EPA is enough to place him, at least a few places above last (surely above GWB) yet he's always ranked in the bottom 3, if not dead last.

Another point I hear about this argument is that Bush's approval, if the middle east goes well after he leaves office, will give him a (more) positive rating. I think that's a little unfair when you see what a president (with such bad marks) like Jimmy Carter has done since his time in office. His run was pretty lousy by most (eh, all) accounts, but its unfair to judge the man's run in the white house by his contemporary humanitarian efforts. Also, who's to say after the 21st of Jan that any of these outcomes or positive events will have anything to do with a man who is no longer in charge.

I'm in the same boat. My wife thinks any type of video game is just wasted time. I'd rather engage my mind with something like a strategy game, which computers seem to be better for, but the Wii has sucked many hours of my life away. I'm super happy with it. Now, that said I have a Xbox 360 on my Christmas list. There are just to many games I want that the Wii can't handle. Like the new Call of Duty, Gears of War, Oblivion, etc.

I'd agree with Jordan on most of those recommendations. Super Mario Galaxy is simply the most beautiful and entertaining game I have ever played. It's challenging mentally, and varied so you don't get bored with it. You will walk away from that game rubbing your eyes after an hour of play because it twists reality and gravity every which way.

Congrats on your major award.

Anonymous:

Your bad language and use of internet acronyms makes me :-(

You're telling Daren to learn some history. Well, I know Daren, I know history, and I know you're a fucking moron.

Are you suggesting that Roosevelt erred by stopping the runs on banks?

You want to go back to the gold standard? Really? Currently, our nation's inflation path is determined mostly by the Fed. Not perfect, but pretty good. Especially considering that under the gold standard, our inflation track would be determined by gold mining companies in countries like Russia, India, and South Africa. You really want our inflation determined by Russia?

It's also clear that the gold standard causes higher short-term price volatility. Currently, our markets haven't been this volatile since the Depression. The gold standard would make it far worse.

Also, there isn't enough gold in the world to back our currency. The cat's out of the bag. So, I guess we could substitute some other commodity for gold. Maybe ethanol? Bovine fecal matter? You've probably been collecting that for decades now.
